Any garage door size is expressed as the internal frame size. This is usually slightly larger than the actual door panel.
For example:
If the internal frame to frame width is 7’0” and the floor to underside of frame crossbar is 6’6” – door size you need to order is 7’0” x 6’6”.
Most Hormann up and over garage doors require a 70 mm square timber goalpost frame OR factory fitted steel frame.
The door size does not include the size of this frame.
There are two ways of fitting an up and over garage door. Please see diagram A and B.

Hormann steel frame dimensions
The table shown in the PDF gives exact external frame sizes. (N.B.) All Hormann canopy doors can have the smaller canopy
door frame or larger retractable door frame pre-fitted to them. This should be specified to us when you order. We can advise. All Hormann retractable
garage doors can come only with the larger retractable garage doors frame pre-fitted to it. Actual brickwork opening sizes should be slightly larger than
sizes in table to allow a fitting tolerance. (eg) 10 mm on the width, 5-10 mm on the height.
- The size of a sectional garage door is expressed as the internal frame size.
- Sectional doors are fitted to the rear of the brick pillars.
- If fitting between the brick pillars – please measure accurately using our self-survey form and phone us on 01691 670394 or e-mail us your sizes and digital photos.
- On Hormann sectional doors space needed on back of pillars is minimum 90 mm either side of the door width.
- Hormann sectional doors come complete with the 90 mm steel frame (i.e.) two uprights and a crossbar.
– data in the following table is based on Hormann remote controls being used.
Please note that if low headroom gear needed you can add it to your order by going to Accessories on left of this screen.
